~Early Happy New Year!~
This week I've been mediocre. Mr. H. has had the whole week off, but as I said, his back is a mess. Damned '97 Neon. >-( We've just been taking it easy @ home. We have BIG EXCITING PLANS for New Years Eve. We're going to my mom's to just kick back and hang out and eat. Eating seems to have become a sport around here.
One of my very best friends, Kris MF, came down to visit yesterday from Mpls. I haven't seen her in PERSON since '93!! We talk on the phone, but this is the first time I've seen her. She looks great and is doing really well aside from her jerk Russian boyfriend. (A different one... *sigh*) We all went out to dinner at a great place in Kohler and then just hung out here for a while, as she had to get back by 9:00pm to visit another friend of ours. I haven't seen him in at least as long as well.
On a sadder note, we all know about the tsunamis and the rising death tolls. It is expected that the death tolls from disease will surpass those of the actual tsunami deaths. This earthquake was SO STRONG, scientists said it wobbled the Earth one inch off it's axis, so now it spins 3 microseconds faster per day. It doesn't make much of a difference, but far far in the future it will. I find that fascinating. I have always studied natural disasters, and have read many books on tsunamis. Morbid as this sounds, I'd like to see video of it. Even satellite video, if zoomed, could probably pick it up. (It picked up the wobble.) I used to sit around and watch the NASA channel when they had live satellite video of Earth. I thought it was amazing. I watched it for hours some times. No sound or anything, just the Earth. OK, so I'm weird... but you all knew that. :P Something interesting that my dad told me about and I just found an ARTICLE about, is that wild animals sensed this ahead of time and got out of the way. I have heard it said that animals in CA can sense an earthquake before the USGS instruments even move. I guess people should follow the animals!
And just for fun, a quiz of course!

The Most Dangerous Shopping Day of the Year...
I had a very different Christmas yesterday. I had a Chronic Fatigue attack and was so exhausted it was a chore to breathe, so Mr. H. went to the relatives and I stayed home alone. Boo Hoo. No biggie, because I had to sleep. And today we're skipping going to see my sister and hubby and Jakl because by noon I will crash out. I just know it. Also Mr. H. is having severe back pain. He NEVER takes prescription meds, but has taken several of mine this morning because the pain is so bad. Mostly due to his crummy car... A Dodge Neon, with the most ridiculously designed seats ever. When you pull them to sit up, you're reclining! He's probably going to have to get a new car just because the seat is ruining his back. Lousy Chevy engineers... *grumble mumble mumble*...
When Mr. H. got back last night, we watched "Blackadder's Christmas Carol". I was just rolling on the floor it was so funny, as usual. I was planning on just resting, but when he put the dvd in, I couldn't stop watching and laughing. I recommend it to... well, people familiar w/the series and who love Britcoms. Flemmy, if you read this, I highly recommend the Blackadder series dvd set. It's my all time favorite sitcom and it teaches you about British history! (Albeit in a bizarre way!)
If any of you are brave enough to go shopping today, I wish you the best of luck! And I encourage you to carry a weapon! A stun gun would be best. Anything else is too weak or too noticeable. (You can't really carry an AK47 into the mall w/out arousing suspicion.) Also, keep an eye out for ladies brawling for the last whatever it may be. We always hear about those incidents on the national news... Women beating each other up in department stores to get the last sweater on sale. I'd LOOOOOOVE to see that!!! ;P
Also, we can all be thankful that we aren't HERE I guess we all have something to be thankful for. When I see things like this, I think to myself how I take too much for granted. I don't usually make New Years resolutions, however this year, I am going to try not to take things for granted. Even though I don't live in my dream house, and have all the money we need, and have health problems, it's nothing compared to what some people endure.
Another Christmas quiz:
Your Christmas element is a Bell! Your protective anf fun loving person. Your a chatterbox and sometimes your too harsh on people. But that's ok! Your a great friend! Make sure you and your friends have a happy Christmas!

Trifle Travails...
I had everything together to make a trifle last week, including fresh blueberries. I'm mourning the passing of the blueberries, as when I finally got around to making the trifle yesterday morning, the blueberries were moldy. >-( They were about $5 for 1/4 cup! At that price they probably deserved a burial rather than being shoved down the garbage disposal. So I made my trifle @ 4:00am yesterday and ate all of it as of 4:30am today. Gee, wonder if that's why I had the most wicked migraine of the year yesterday. My mom brought over all these cookies and we have all this chocolate and I'm not eating any more of it. It's been tending to make me sick.
Mr. H. is finally off of work until after the new year! Woohoo!! We're going to his aunt and uncle's tomorrow for Christmas, and then to my sister's the next two days, and then to GB after that to see my good friend Kris MF (From Mpls, BTW). We were to get together last year but I ended up in the ER w/that continuous 15 hour vomiting virus, so it never happened. She dumped the crazy Russian bastard she was with, and picked up with another one! :-O I yelled at her because he treats her badly and she deserves the best. She's so cool. Now that she has a shitload of $ saved and a great house in a great neighborhood, she can afford to get rid of that factory job where she works 7 days a week, and trade it in for a job in business and use that MBA of hers even if she takes a paycut. Then she'll meet some guys she has more in common with for sure. I can't wait for her to do that. She's such a great person and I can't stand to see her with anyone but the best! When we were on the phone last night, he called her on her other phone, and I yelled at the top of my lungs, "SHE'S GONNA DUMP YOU!!!!" (I know, my maturity level is astounding...) :P
My fellow chickas, when you read Gaz's blog post for today, give him shit for #6 on his "list of things he wants for Christmas". I quote: "6. Peace and good will to all men. Cleaning and tidying for women." !!!? >-O I told him he's getting a lump of coal in his stocking for that! Mrs. Claus won't stand for that kind of talk!!
Also, one day early, Happy B-Day Nessa! (If you read this!) Enjoy the combo Christmas/B-day gifts I'm sure you get. :-/ Hope you get lots of grass and feed and whatever else cows like! :P

~~Time is Free~~
I'm going brain dead here! We got snow 2 nights ago, so finally it's white out, but it's been cold and we're supposed to get in the -20 degree area wind chills some of these nights. Bleah. We went to my sister in law's last weekend for the traditional Christmas hummus and pizza and such. I was so full/bloated from a protein bar I had earlier, that I could barely eat anything... not until it was about time to go, when I ate 1/2 of a bread loaf sized tupperware full of a spinach salad and a bunch of chocolates. We had a good time. We got a lot of gifts as well... of course the usual several gift cards for Home Depot. :P We never made it for sushi, as I was too full the whole time. Bummer there. We took a different way to her house and it only took us 2hrs 15 min. to get to downtown Chicago. None of that shitty "45 minutes to drive 3 miles" crap this year! We also got a 3 lb box of Mrs. Field's chocolates, and someone got me a 15 serving Swiss chocolate bar! I've eaten a lot of chocolates the last few days resulting in headaches. Blah... I've just been doing stuff around here the past few days. I haven't started my class work yet... *snicker*, but I bet you knew that. Mr. H. has been up @ 4am and back @ 8pm or midnight the past few days. He's been working a big job w/other people from where he works, but also crummy brain dead New Yorkers who organized this thing, and slacky Chicago Teamsters. The Teamsters have slowed things down bigtime. They really are pathetic!! So Mr. H. is off of work the 24th - the 3rd, which will be nice.
Another quiz where I came out a dragon:
Take the quiz: "What kind of Mystical Creature are you??"
Dragon You can be hotheaded at times. Others aren't sure how to take you. You can be a rock when needed and are very protective of those around you.
I'm sure I'll post at least one more time, but just in case I don't, HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE!

~Fresh Air... Green Hair II~
Well, I've been having crappy asthma attacks and a runny nose for several days now and my research has revealed that the cause is my really amazing gingerbread scented candle. BOOOOO!!!! Oh, headaches too. I just had my front door open so I could open the screens really wide to get some fresh air in the house. I suppose my neighbors think I'm some freak w/the screens open wide when it's this cold. Ah well...
Also, I decided to delay my homework and lectures until next week. I REEEEEALY know how to slack!!! As I always say... I've got it down to an art form! ;P
Just a side note: How many of you are NOT familiar with Edward Hopper's painting, "Nighthawks""? It's displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago, and it's considered one of the 100 greatest masterpieces ever painted. I ask because I sent out some Christmas cards that are a parody of that painting, and I talked to my parents and they'd never SEEN it before! I must have seen it over 100 times in my life in different books and displays and even used it for part of an Aesthetics class project one year. I sent that one out to the people I thought were artistically challenged, thinking EVERYONE's seen that painting! I sent out a Japanese woodblock print (Hokusai's "The Great Wave"), which is also a parody as it has Santa surfing on it to people I thought would appreciate something new to them. Now I'm realizing not everyone has seen Nighthawks, which shocked the hell out of me! Oh well, that's a bummer, because then they don't get the parody. So it goes...
A late addition:
J.R.R. Tolkien: Lord of the Rings. You are entertaining and imaginative, creating whole new worlds around yourself. Well loved, you have a whole league of imitators, none of which is quite as profound as you are. Stories and songs give a spark of joy in the middle of your eternal battle with the forces of evil.

~~Deep Space Bass~~
I'm uninspired to blog. It's not that I don't have a lot to blog about, I just don't feel like doing it. It's ugly and rainy out... no snow, so I've kept the blinds shut and am hanging out w/my Christmas lights, tree, fiberoptic stuff, etc.
There have been more issues w/our house, as usual. I don't think we go a week without some sort of construction type professional having to be here to fix something, or whatever. And I could write a novel on that just from what we've gone thru the past week! But I'll spare you... :D
I got my tapes for my class, and they arrived all smashed. Hopefully the cassettes actually work, but the cases are shattered to pieces. I called them and they said they switched most of them to CD, and I'm like, "Why didn't I get CDs instead of these *crappy-ass* tapes?" I have to borrow a boom box from my mom to listen to them because anything we have w/a cassette player isn't working. This is the class I had to drop last spring, "The History of Popular Music since 1950" or whatever, so I only have 2/3 of a class to take, but have until April to do it! I just do the reading, lectures, and take the two exams sometime before April 12, and that's it! She's holding my first grade so I just start at part 2! How cool is that!?
I have almost all my Christmas shopping done. We still have to get passes to the indoor waterpark at a new hotel (Blue Harbor) for 2 of my nieces. Mr. H. and I stayed there a couple nights as he was on a job there, so no a freebie. Niiiice. A lot of the PGA guys stayed there also, but they also have suites that are several thousand $/night. They have a few restaurants, their own home made candy shop, and a HUGE water park inside and our nieces on Mr. H.'s side really want to go there. I hope they have passes that can be used on any day. The Jaklynator is getting balloons because that's what she wants and it's her favorite thing. She tosses her expensive toys aside and plays w/her balloons all day long.
She also has her own Christmas tree. My sis and her hubby have 3 trees indoors. One is real and 2 fake, but all 8 feet tall or so. One in the living room, one in the family room, and one on the balcony. The one on the balcony is the Jaklynator's and she gets to decorate that one herself. My mom was supervising her and I guess it's hysterical, as all the ornaments are 3 feet off the ground w/a bare tree the rest of the way up. They're going to leave it that way! hahahaha! I can't wait to see it!
There seems to be a definite Christmas decorating debacle thang that goes on in our family. (Excluding my mother and I.) One year when we were kids, my sister made an "ornament" that was nothing but a big styrofoam ball w/2 pieces of cloth pinned to it, and the rest of it scribbled w/different colored markers. The UUUU-GLIEST thing you've ever seen!!! And my mom insisted on hanging it in the doorway to the living room! I begged her to take it down: "Mom! It's hideous! Look at the rest of the house! This ruins everything else! Pleeeeeze take it down!?" And she refused. Ugh...
And at some point when I was in college there was "The Checkmark Incident". Same house I lived in when we grew up. To give you an idea of the positioning, it was on a curve, and if you went straight down the street you'd hit our house if you didn't follow the curve, so it was about the first thing you'd see when you turned the corner onto our street. One Christmas my mom and I went shopping while my dad put up the outdoor lights. Our house was asymmetrical, and on each side of the doorway was a pine tree about 8 feet tall, and to the right were low pine bushes. It was dark when my mom and I left the mall to go home. We turned the corner onto our street and what did we see? (This is DEFINITELY the slacker way to put up outdoor lights!)... A CHECKMARK! He had one strand of white lights going straight up and down the tall tree on the right, and then just stretched over the pine bushes going to the right. An ACTUAL CHECKMARK!!! And it was the first thing anyone could see when they went down our block! We were laughing so hard we could hardly stand it. He refused to re-do it, so it stayed there all thru the holidays... lmao!
And then there was the multi-colored 16 foot phallus @ my in-laws that Mr.H. and I made when they were in FL for 3 months. heheheheh! My father in law was NOT amused! It looked pretty cool! He chopped the 16 foot tree/stump thing down that spring!
So I'm looking forward to seeing Jakl's tree. Last post I mentioned how she picks up words and phrases easily... "damitch!" Last week when my mom was down there babysitting, Jakl said "Nona?" (That's Italian for grandma, and my mom is known as Nona.) "Nona? I have issues." lmmfao!!!! My sister always says "so and so has issues" or "the dog has issues", but issues is one of her consistent words and now Jakl has issues, or so she thinks... hahahaha! I'd love to bring her to see my shrink... I think he'd have a heart attack!!!
Well, I'm waiting for the basement waterproofers to get here to look at the circuit board the furnace guy pulled out when our furnace stopped working last week due to concrete dust from the basement dudes. Hopefully they will cover it, or some of it, because it was a $300+ job and ALL their fault. We still have concrete dust everywhere, can't find most our ornaments or decorations because everything has been moved around, but that's OK because there's no room for all of that junk anyhoo...
Before I sign off, I want to wish a speedy recovery to Lucy, who is quite ill right now... Hang in there Lucy!
